LSYT End of the Year 2014 Holiday Wishes from Our LSYT Family to Yours

It’s always interesting to hear what participants of LSYT think of the program.  From the youth working behind the scenes that can put together technology better than most adults that I know to the youth who were afraid to speak in public who can now speak in front of 800…the impact varies but has one common thread of staying with them throughout their lives.  Our 2014 End of the Year Newsletter explores what current and past participants think of our program and how it has impacted their lives.  http://www.lsyt.org

We asked several members of our youth theatre program from the past and present to give us their take on what the youth theatre program means to them.  Throughout these pages are what they said in their own words.  One common theme that we found was that youth consider LSYT a second “family”.  Hence we wanted to say a happy holiday from our “family” to yours.  Enjoy!

We look forward to another amazing year of LSYT in 2015!  We hope that you are able to assist us with continuing a great program in Marquette.  Thank you for all of your support that you’ve given whether it was financial, donating time, attending a musical, or even just telling everyone about us.  For those who want to give an end of the year financial donation, there is a link to a form that you can download and mail today in order to process your payment before the end of the year.  Please inquire if you would like to purchase a program ad for our upcoming production of “Mary Poppins” or you can order an ad by also logging onto our website in the links below.
Sincerely, Nikke Nason
Executive/Artistic Director

“Lake Superior Youth Theatre (formerly Marquette Arts & Culture Center Youth Theatre) was a hugely influential program in my life. As a teenager performing in musicals, I had an interest in costume design, and was encouraged to design costumes for numerous Youth Theatre productions throughout high-school, and later college; I was supported in an incredible hands-on learning experience. This helped me develop a love for design, which I studied in college and graduate school. Now, as an Assistant Professor of Art & Design, I still use all of the skills I first learned in Youth Theatre: how to design with specific budgets and deadlines, speak confidently in front of large groups, and work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal. I feel so fortunate to have had these experiences, and am delighted to see kids involved with Youth Theatre today– I have no doubt it will positively shape their lives, too.”

“Having the opportunity to live in New York City while training in Musical Theatre at Marymount Manhattan College is an experience I never thought would be possible. It  wouldn’t have been had I not gotten involved with Lake Superior Youth Theatre. Doing LSYT allowed me to understand what it would take to get to where I am today, as well as giving me the tools to do it. LSYT trained me to the best of my abilities with the shows they produce, allowing me to succeed as a singer, actor, dancer, and person. I learned how to successfully put on a show in a professional setting. Thank you LSYT for helping me reach my goals.”

“I have always been outgoing and had a lot of energy and theater has helped me channel that. I have been able to feel happy and upset and hopeful through characters. Being involved in theater shows you that you aren’t alone in your obstacles and struggles in life. It’s a really cool experience when you and the character you play share the same qualities. I have leaned how to put my all in something and became a part of a team. Every role, every song, every line; it’s all a part of an amazing story and being able to help portray that as a tightly knit group is truly a blessing.”
