Salvation Army of Marquette County Distributing Backpacks and School Supplies

ISHPEMING, MI –

The Salvation Army of Marquette County is once again stepping up to support families in the West End by distributing backpacks filled with school supplies to those in need. To help with this initiative, the organization is asking for donations of school supplies, which can be dropped off at the Salvation Army‘s Ishpeming location, TruNorth Credit Union, or the Ishpeming Senior Center.

“Every year we help probably 75 to 100 families,” said Cari Detmers, Director of Development for the Salvation Army of Marquette County. “Last year, we assisted over 230 children. Backpack supplies are important. Kids need to feel comfortable when they start school, and for parents, that can be stressful.”

Families in need of back-to-school supplies can register for a backpack by calling (906) 486-8121. Registration is open until August 12.
