Escanaba, MI-January 19, 2015-The Delta County Airport was forced to cancel their inbound and outbound flights for today, and potentially tomorrow also, due to an equipment malfunction. The Delta County Airport administration released the following statement:
“The Delta County Airport administration would like to inform the public about recent flight cancellations. Due to a malfunctioning FAA weather equipment called AWOS or Airport Weather Observations System, Delta Airlines has been obliged to cancel inbound and outbound flights. Unfortunately, there are rules that prevent anyone other than FAA staff to diagnose and repair this equipment. Due to the federal holiday today, we don’t expect the AWOS to be examined until tomorrow morning when the FAA will inform the airport administration how long this equipment will be down.
It is our goal that with this information, passengers can make informed decisions about their traveling plans this week. If you have questions about your flight, please call Delta Airlines’ local phone number (906)789-5654.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
