Marquette, MI – CineArts Films at Peter White Public Library, a series devoted to foreign and independent films, presents our third annual Reel China, a program celebrating Chinese culture through food and film on Friday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room.
The NMU Chinese Organization will introduce the film, speak with the audience and serve Chinese snacks followed by the movie “To Live.” Set against four decades of Chinese political turmoil, “To Live” follows one couple as they struggle to survive their changing circumstances within the upheaval. Shows how the changes in Chinese society affected the family by bringing the huge subject of “the first twenty years of Communism in China” down to a human scale. It’s both an important examination of recent Chinese history, and a universal story about how individual human beings manage “to live” in times of hardship.
1994. In Mandarin with English subtitles. 133 minutes. Free admission. Call 226-4309 or visit www.pwpl.info for more information.
