CHATHAM, MICHIGAN – The MSU Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center in Chatham, Michigan, is hosting a Field Day on Saturday, July 26th from 1 – 4 pm. This “Open Farm” event welcomes anyone to come and go throughout the afternoon to take a look at the research that is on-going at the station.
This past year, MSU was awarded $100,000 by Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to expand the variety trial program, and the result of that work will be showcased. Two trials that will be featured include malting barley and forages. We’ll be joined by Dr. Kim Cassida and Dr. Russ Freed, researchers from MSU to discuss varieties and answer questions from producers.
Other crop trials on display include spring wheat, winter wheat, oats, field peas, BMR forage sorghum and eight species of cover crops.
The event is free and open to the public and free ice cream sundaes, served with DeBacker Family Dairy ice cream will be offered throughout the afternoon. Questions can be directed to Ashley McFarland at 906-439-5176 or ashleymc@msu.edu.
