GEAR UP Program Funding Renewed

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – Northern Michigan University’s GEAR UP program has been renewed for three years through a grant from the federal King Chavez Parks Initiative College Day Program.

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is coordinated by the NMU Multicultural Education and Resource Center and administered on the federal level by the U.S. Department of Education. Its goal is to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. This is done by promoting academic excellence through a variety of locally designed and innovative early intervention services.

NMU’s GEAR UP program will offer a summer camp for students June 22-28.
