Angler Input Sought on Experimental Trout Regulations in Upper Peninsula

The Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries Division is seeking information from anglers to help evaluate the Upper Peninsula’s experimental trout regulations.

Just as in 2013, anglers will have the opportunity to harvest 10 brook trout per day on five Upper Peninsula stream segments during the 2014 trout season.

The 2014 Michigan Fishing Guide specifies where the 10 brook trout possession limit applies on portions of the East Branch Ontonagon, East Branch Huron, Dead, Driggs and East Branch Tahquamenon rivers. Visit the DNR website to view maps of experimental stream segments.

Angler harvest, effort and opinion data gathered from these and other U.P. waters will allow comparisons to be made among streams with different regulations.

Anglers can provide their input in three different ways:

Talking to creel clerks who will be stationed on some streams.
Completing and mailing postcards that may be left on their windshields at fishing locations.
Submitting an online survey related to their U.P. trout fishing excursions.

The DNR encourages anglers to ensure their voices are heard by providing (through any of the three reporting methods) the most complete and accurate information possible.
