The partnership is made up of Cliffs Natural Resources and the four western Marquette County school districts: Ishpeming, Negaunee, N.I.C.E. and Republic-Michigamme. The partnership was formed by Cliffs as a way of becoming involved with, and supporting education and recognizing academic achievement in the area.
This is the 25th year of annual Excellence in Education Day.
The annual Excellence in Education Day honors students from the four school districts who have received all “A”s during the first semester of the current school year. This year, 200 students are being honored.
In addition, two teachers from each of the four school districts are honored annually for their dedication and commitment to excellence in education.
Students and teachers will be treated to one of four separate tours related to the iron mining industry on Friday. 8:00 AM–Breakfast and brief welcoming remarks @ Lakeview School, Croix St., Negaunee
8:45 AM–Busses leave for tours from the Lakeview School.
11:45 AM–Recognition and awards luncheon @ the HOLIDAY INN Marquette. Guest speaker will be Marquette City Commissioner Don Ryan Don Ryan worked for Cliffs for 26 years and began Cliffs involvement with Excellence in Education Day. 2:00 PM–Banquet concludes.
