Chocolay Township – In an effort to maintain regular weekly collection of recyclable materials, as well as garbage, an agreement has been reached between the Marquette County Road Commission and waste collection contractor, Great American Disposal (GAD), which will allow the company to utilize their regular collection vehicles during the period of road weight restrictions. GAD has received approval to pull their recycling collection trailers during colder night time hours, and so will change collection schedules while weight restrictions are in place. Chocolay Township residents are asked to place their garbage and recyclables at roadside on the evening before their assigned collection day. Weight restrictions are scheduled to take effect beginning Saturday, March 29 at 8:00 AM, and will likely be in place for about two months. The regular garbage/recyclables collection schedule will resume once weight restrictions are lifted.
Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when approaching a collection vehicle d uring hours of darkness. Residents are reminded to place all materials put out for collection in a drive opening or other break in the snow bank. Do not stack them atop snowbanks. Where animals may rip open garbage bags, the use of trash cans to contain the bags is encouraged. Each garbage bag must still be tied closed and sealed with a Chocolay garbage tag. Recyclables do not require tags, but should be placed out for collection in a hard-walled can or bin. Recycling saves dollars and the environment.
