Fish’s Diet Topic of NMU Biology Seminar March 19th

MARQUETTE— The next biology seminar at Northern Michigan University will examine the 1992-2012 diet of the burbot, a fish found in many Midwest lakes. Casey Hares will give the presentation at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, in Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building. It is free and open to the public.

A cross between a catfish and eel, the burbot has a serpentine-like body that glides through the water. It survives on an eclectic diet of different types of invertebrates, fish, insects and small amphibians. Studying the burbot has been made more challenging because its populations are being threatened or eliminated.

For more information about the event, call 227-2310.
