MARQUETTE, Mich.—The Northern Michigan University Regional Police Academy is accepting applications for its upcoming training session, which runs May 4-Aug. 19.
The academy provides more than 800 hours of police training over 16 weeks. It covers topics such as patrol procedures, investigations, crime scene preservation, defensive tactics, firearms, precision driving and legal aspects of police work. Recruits are required to complete a curriculum established by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, or MCOLES.
