Author-Activist Talks Global Food Crisis at NMU February 20th

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Controversial author, activist and food policy expert Raj Patel will present “How will we feed 10 billion people sustainably?” at Northern Michigan University. His talk is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in the University Center Michigan and Ontario Rooms. Tickets are available at the door for $2. NMU students are free with ID.

Patel is the author of Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System and, most recently, The Value of Nothing. He has testified about the causes of the global food crisis to the U.S. House Financial Services Committee. Other related roles include adviser to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and fellow at the Institute for Food and Development Policy, also known as Food First. Patel has worked for the World Bank and WTO, later protesting against them around the world. He holds degrees from the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics and Cornell University.
