Ishpeming, MI—Feb. 3, 2014 —Cliffs Natural Resources, (NYSE: CLF) (Paris: CLF) announced today it will be making financial contributions and multi-year pledge payments in 2014 to organizations in Marquette County totaling more than $410,000 from its corporate charitable giving arm, the Cliffs Foundation.
Among the highlights of the Foundation announcement for 2014 are new multi–year commitments totaling $550,000 to Northern Michigan University, the Michigan Iron Industry Museum and the Diocese of Marquette Father Marquette School. Those pledges will be paid in increments over the next several years.
NMU will receive $250,000 over five years for continued development and support of its Clinical Laboratory Science programs. The Michigan Iron Industry Museum pledge of $200,000 over five years will assist the museum in a project to upgrade exhibits. The Father Marquette School pledge of $100,000 over the next two years will assist in renovations to provide a community gathering and public reception area.
“While these three pledges highlight the Foundation’s commitment to the area for 2014, they are part of an overall program of support to a significant number of community organizations and programs,” said Dale Hemmila, director of public affairs in North America for Cliffs. “The Foundation’s annual contributions to education and community building is reflective of the long-time commitment Cliffs Natural Resources has maintained within the communities where it has operations.”

In addition, the Foundation provides annual support for several local organizations totaling $17,000.
The Cliffs Foundation focus areas include education and community building with priority being given to locations where Cliffs has business operations. Grant applications from 501 (c) (3) qualified organizations will be accepted until June 1, 2014 for 2015 budget consideration.
