Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Inc. (GLRC) received a $1,000 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation on behalf of the Luce County “Communities that Care” (CTC) board. Communities that Care is a model that uses prevention-science research to promote positive youth development and prevent youth behavioral problems (such as substance abuse, delinquency and bullying).
Part of the model is focused on building relationships between families and their communities. In their community profile, the Luce County CTC board identified a lack of community activities (especially during the non-summer months) as a risk factor that contributes to risky behavior in youth. The grant from the Plum Creek foundation will provide prizes, snacks and activities for Luce County adolescents (ages 12-17). Activities include: A Snowman Building contest, a Lock-in, Movies Nights and more.
