A public book discussion of The Butterfly Mosque by G. Willow Wilson will be held on Wednesday, January 29 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room. This is part of a monthly book discussion series of five titles from the library’s Muslim Journeys/Bridging Cultures program. All are welcome. Free. For more information, call Cathy at 226-4309 or visit the reference desk on the 2nd floor.
The Butterfly Mosque is Wilson’s memoir about growing up an atheist, middle-class female in America. In college she studied Islam, converted, and moved to Cairo to teach English. There she fell in love with and married Omar. She writes of how the couple builds connections through art, love, hard work and compassion yet how stereotypes and cultural and political differences hinder understanding. Together they forge a hybrid culture in a post 9/11 world. Wilson is a journalist, novelist and comic book writer.
