Hunt Starts Alaska Native Veterinary Program

MARQUETTE, Mich.—Tim Hunt, owner of Bayshore Veterinary Clinic, will give a Northern Center for Lifelong Learning presentation on his trip to start the Alaska Native Rural Veterinary Program. His talk begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in room 101-B of the Superior Dome.

Hunt conducted a spay/neuter and vaccination clinic in several Yup’ik villages in western Alaska last summer. It was part of his effort to start a program to offer veterinary services in areas of Alaska where they normally would not be available. He worked with two others and was funded by a USDA grant. Traveling by boat to the different villages on the river allowed them to connect with an entirely wonderful, indigenous culture.

The cost is free for NCLL members and $5 for non-members. Register by Thursday, Jan. 9, by calling 227-2979.
