Ishpeming, MI—December 23, 2013 —Cliffs Natural Resources Inc., (NYSE: CLF) (Paris: CLF) announced today the United Steelworkers Local Unions 4974 and 4950 have collected $1,951 for the Ishpeming Salvation Army by participating in the Salvation Army’s red kettle drive. Kettles were placed on Cliffs’ property at the Tilden Mine, Empire Mine and the Empire pit. Employees rotated shifts ringing the bell and collecting donations for the Salvation Army from employees, visitors and contractors.
“The Salvation Army’s kettle campaign is the major fundraiser for the holidays,” said James Kochevar, general manager, Cliffs Michigan Operations. “We’re happy to be able to have the kettles on our property, making it easy for individuals to donate.”
“Over the years, the red kettle drive at Cliffs has been quite successful in raising donations for the Salvation Army to help brighten the Christmas Holiday for those in need,” said Jim Jarvi, president, USW Local 4974. “Our thanks to everyone who donated and the employees who happily braved the elements at the entrances ringing the bell.”
“For many years, the United Steelworkers have been organizing the kettle drives at Cliffs Michigan Operations,” said Peter Heikkala, union safety representative, USW Local 4950. “On behalf of those that donate year after year, we feel very fortunate to contribute to those in need within our communities.”
The kettle campaign collections for the Ishpeming Salvation Army will help provide food for their food bank and provide assistance for those in need.
