The public is invited to a special Back on Track workshop on choosing health insurance on Wednesday, November 13 from 6:00-8:00 pm, in the Peter White Public Library’s Conference room on the main floor of the library.
To assist consumers to learn how to make a smart choice about health insurance, Michigan State University Extension and the Peter White Library will hold a Smart Choice workshop at the library. Research shows that almost all consumers are confused about how to purchase and use health insurance. Many people are not comfortable with the terms and rules of health insurance plans. Many consumers don’t have confidence in their decisions.
With the passage of the Affordable Care Act and the recent opening of statewide health insurance marketplaces in Michigan and elsewhere, a focus has been directed toward important issues involving health insurance. MSU Extension wants to help consumers take control of their personal and family financial and health needs with the Smart Choice for Health Insurance curriculum.
There are three important questions to answer when making a Smart Choice health insurance decision: WHY? Why do I need health insurance? Why is it important? WHAT? What do I need and want? What are my choices? HOW? How much will it cost? How much can I afford?
The Smart Choice program offers tools to give people confidence and help them build their smart shopping skills.
Through the Smart Choice program, participants will find tools they can use, such as: Definitions you will need to understand health insurance Sample insurance plans to show how insurance plan information will look Worksheets to help you make your own Smart Choice insurance purchasing decision. Worksheets include My Health Insurance Needs; My Health Insurance Plan Comparison; My Monthly Spending Plan.
There is no cost for the workshop but registration is required due to space limitations. Call Beth Waitrovich, Extension Educator at 1-906-774-0363 or 1-888-678-3464 to register or email Beth at waitrovi@anr.msu.edu.
