ISHPEMING, MI – The Greater Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis Club was recently the recipient of the Catalyst Award, recognized as the premier service club in the area, presented by The Marquette County Community Foundation. The Marquette County CommunityFoundation celebrated its 25th anniversary at Northern Michigan University in Marquette and presented the award during their celebration banquet.
The Pioneer Kiwanis Club consists of sixty members, most of who are retired, from nine surrounding communities. the men and women in the club average seventy-three years of age and represent an impressive array of skills and experience. Service to others has been the club’s driving force since its inception thirty-seven years ago.
Some of the club’s service projects are as follows:
– Building handicapped access ramps for the area residents.
– Bingo and sing-alongs routinely presented at area nursing homes
– Aide stations set up by club members during Ore to Shore bike race and Noquemenon Ski Race
– Clothing and can drives
