Wednesday October 2, 7:00 p.m. at MRHC
What would prompt J.M. Longyear to invest in a desolate island halfway between Norway and the North Pole? Listen to this fascinating story as presenters Patrick Martin, professor of anthropological archaeology at Michigan Technological University, who has visited and studied the Longyear mining operations at Spitzbergen and Fred Tibbitts, whose uncle Fred Burrall was manager of operations at Spitzbergen, share their stories. Mr. Burral kept detailed daily account in his diaries and this program will touch upon those accounts, as well as photographs and excerpts from historic documents.
