The Halloween Spectacle Volunteer Opportunities

(Marquette, Michigan) — The City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center is proud to announce the second annual Halloween Spectacle on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The City of Marquette and the Downtown Development Authority will be host to a large-scale community outdoor performance of giant puppetry, percussion, and theatrical dance. The community is invited to create, build and perform in this years Spectacle. Take part in the free workshops happening at the art center leading up to the main event.

The MACC is looking for volunteers; individuals, groups, teams, organizations, co-workers, and families. If you or your group have an idea or want to take part in the free workshops leading up to the Spectacle get a hold of the MACC. Needed are actors, musicians, set builders, stage managers, costume designers, make up artists and security personnel. All ages are encouraged.

Free workshops offered:

Chinese Dragon Puppet–Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 3-26 at 3:00-6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 7 and 21 at 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Deb White will lead life-size dragon project. Needed are community members with skills in sculpting, painting, sewing and carpentry.

Marionette– Monday and Wednesday, September 23 and 25 at 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Create a bird-like marionette from recycled materials

Luminaria–Saturdays, October 12 and 19 at 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Make a luminaria from recycled bottles. Bring a bottle and a stick and staff will instruct how to create a lantern using a few simple techniques.

Pumpkin Carving—Saturdays, October 19 and 26 at 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Meet at the Farmers market for the annual pumpkin carving. Staff will teach alternative methods to develop pumpkin creation.
