Seney, MI – Over the past three years, Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) members, have assisted Refuge staff and volunteers in making, 1,478 feet of the Pine Ridge Nature Trail accessible. This entailed laying filter fabric, putting in a wood border and covering the path with a combination of road gravel and pathway mix. For the last two years, the pathway mix was generously donated by Carmeuse Lime and Stone, Port Inland. Members of the YCC crews included: 2011 – Germfask: Robert Burton, Joshua Townley, and Harley Troxler, Newberry: Autumn Collins; 2012 – Curtis: Jasmine Alder, McMillan: Austin Gage, Germfask: Kristopher Zellar and Tiffany Zellar; 2013 – Seney: Gregory Bowler, Germfask: Clarence Brock and Brianna Rohr, McMillan: Tessa Gage.
The accessible portion of the trail starts from the east end of the Visitor Center. The accessible portion of the trail should be accommodating to visitors of all abilities. Next year if funding is available we hope to construct a boardwalk up a little hill with a deck to fully complete the accessible portion of the trail. Please come out and experience Seney National Wildlife Refuge and enjoy the accessible Pine Ridge Nature Trail.
