Escanaba, MI – Ladies, start your fair activities!
Ladies Day at the 2013 Upper Peninsula State Fair is scheduled to start noon Friday, Aug. 16, in the Activities Tent at the fairgrounds in Escanaba.
The annual event will provide an afternoon of pampering, cooking demonstrations, free gifts and wine and beer tasting. Admission to Ladies Fair is included with the cost of admission to the fair.
Sheila Krueger is the associate director of the Delta County Commerce Center , which contracts with the U.P. State Fair Authority to operate the fair and its facilities.
“The fair has been here since 1928, and for many years Ladies Day has been a fun part of fair week. Ladies Day will continue to change just like the women do who take part in the event. We will continue to entertain participants and give them many items and tips they can bring back to their homes or workplace,” Krueger said.
Ladies Day 2013 will feature popular events from the past, like cooking demonstrations, but will also include new and fun activities like a wine and beer tasting.
“We listened to participants from past Ladies Days, and tried to polish the event to best fit their wants and needs,” Krueger said.
Sponsors of this year’s Ladies Day are Bells Brewery, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bay Area, and OSF Women in Philanthropy.
Krueger said women should come for the day and enjoy all the Fair has to offer. Free grandstand entertainment for Friday night is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which has had a number of hits mingling country and popular music.
This year’s fair is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 12, through Sunday, Aug. 18.
