(Marquette, Michigan)– Documentary film fans are invited to view the film Where Soldiers Come From and meet the film’s producer/director on Monday, August 12 at 7:00 pm in the Peter White Public Library’s community room.
From a snowy small town in the U.P. to the mountains of Afghanistan and back, the film follows the four-year journey of childhood friends, forever changed by a faraway war. “Where Soldiers Come From” is an intimate look at the young men who fight our wars and the families and town they come from, going beyond the guns and policies of an ongoing war to tell a human story about family, friendship, and community and how they all change when young people go off to fight.
Producer/director Heather Courtney will lead a question and answer session after the screening of the film which won the 2012 Emmy Award for Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story – Long Form and a 2012 Independent Spirit Truer Than Fiction Award as well as being selected best documentary feature at the Philadelphia and Traverse City film festivals.
Where Soldiers Come From had its national broadcast premiere in Fall 2011 on PBS’s award-winning documentary series POV and an encore broadcast in September 2012.
The event is open to the public and has no admission charge. For more information call the Peter White Public Library at 226-4318 or visit www.pwpl.info.
