Maquette County jobless rates for January:
3 of the 46 counties experienced a lower jobless rate in January, 1 stayed the same and 42 went higher. This is likely related to the various aspects of seasonality that we will typically find in our rural communities.
What is new for this table is the latest median household incomes and the corresponding updated %age relationship to the State’s median household income. Poverty rates were updated to reflect new information and so was the column around bachelor’s degrees for those over 25.
You might look at the charts and assume that I was impaired, and let me assure you this was not the case. What the columns now depict is a trend. If the shift in the column is left, it is lower since the last reported data. If it is right it is higher, and if it is in the middle there was no change. So for example 31 counties had their median household income go up since the last census report and 15 went down. So to start at the top, Alcona saw their median household income rise with the new information released by the US Census for 2011 estimates. That also caused their median household percentage to rise. For the month of January their job less rate went higher. The Census estimate for 2011 showed that their poverty rate went up and it is now the same as the rate of Michigan. Finally they saw in the 2011 Census estimate the percentage of 25 year old adults with Bachelor Degrees go up. So, this adds a small trend dimension.
