BACKGROUND:
MDOT is reconstructing about 1 mile of M-26 in downtown Laurium, from Isle Royale Street to Boundary Street, and on Osceola Street from M-26 to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. The project will include recreating historic concrete pavement, sidewalks and lighting, and improving underground water main and drainage. The work is scheduled to begin in May and be completed in October.
This work will require a closure to through-traffic and a detour in two phases. During Phase 1, northbound M-26 traffic will detour on Isle Royale Street and Third Street back to M-26. During Phase 2, M-26 traffic will detour on Lake Linden Avenue and US-41 back to M-26.
