Unions to Rally in Ishpeming

Ishpeming, Michigan —Working people from the local area will Stand Up for Unions at the Westwood High School parking lot at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 The Stand Up for Unions rally will feature speeches, at least one song, and a hint of comedy, according to Westwood High School teacher B.G. Bradley, one of the organizers of the event.

“We want to remind people of a few things unions have contributed to our society,” said Bradley, “including equal pay for equal work, the 40 hour work week, an end to child labor, and decent living wages for working people.”

Representatives of the Nice Teachers’ Association, Negaunee Teachers’ Association, the Trade Council and other unions are expected to attend.

“If you are a union member or if you simply support the ideas the unions stand for, please come on out and show your support,” said Bradley, adding that the rally is open to anyone who is interested.
