Marquette – The Downtown Marquette Pirate festival will kick off Friday, August 8 with the arrival of the 92-foot tall ship Madeline, which will be moored in the Lower Harbor.
The two-masted ship is a reconstruction of a mid-19th century schooner.
A flotilla of local yachts will attempt to ward off the Madeline “pirates” upon its arrival Friday evening. Area residents are invited to support the local yachters from shore or join the visiting pirates on land. A cannon will assist in the defense of Marquette.
