MARQUETTE, Mich.—The 12th annual First Nations Food Taster at Northern Michigan University will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Jacobetti Complex. It will feature traditional and contemporary dishes, along with recipes made from ingredients on the master food list associated with the Decolonizing Diet Project at NMU. The DDP features foods indigenous to the Great Lakes region, in an effort to closely replicate how Native Americans would have eaten prior to colonization.
The food taster is also a fundraiser for the annual pow wow hosted by the Native American Student Association. Advance tickets are $5 for NMU students and $12 for the general public. They can be purchased at the NMU Center for Native American Studies in 112 Whitman Hall. Tickets purchased at the door are $7 and $15, respectively. For more information, visit www.nmu.edu/cnas.
