MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University will present a discussion on domestic and sexual violence at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 in 167 Gries Hall as part of its Discourses from the Academy colloquium series.
Amy Kordus and Kelly Laakso explore the prevalence and the impact of sexual assault and abuse, as well as explore the healing process. They will present on the qualities of healthy relationships, define the characteristics of dating violence and review how to help those in domestic violent or sexually abusive situations. Included in the discussion will be a look at intimate partner violence, how to identified the signs of this situation and learn to help. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is co-sponsored by the NMU Psi Chi student organization, Marquette’s Harbor House and the Women’s Center. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
