Afternoon Classic Films presents a screening of “Bridge on the River Kwai” on Monday, November 5 at 1:30 pm in the Peter White Public Library Community Room.

Set in Thailand during World War II following the surrender of Singapore, the film stars William Holden, Alec Guinness and Jack Hawkins. After settling his differences with a Japanese POW camp commander, a British colonel, played by Guinness in his Oscar winning role, co-operates to oversee his men’s construction of a railway bridge for their captors – while oblivious to a plan by the Allies to destroy it.

Released in 1957 and winner of seven Academy Awards, “Bridge on the River Kwai” is a National Film Registry selection of the Library of Congress, runs for 161 minutes and is shown in color.

There is no admission charge thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Peter White Public Library. For more information visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
