Join Readers Theater for a reading of “The Teahouse of the August Moon” by John Patrick on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00pm in the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room.
The Teahouse of the August Moon was adapted in 1952 by playwright John Patrick from the novel of the same name by Vern Sneider. The play satirizes the U.S. occupation and Americanization of the island of Okinawa following the end of WWII in 1945. It was a Broadway hit, running 1027 performances and winning many awards including: the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best American Play of the Year, the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and the Tony Award.
A comedy film version of the play premiered in 1956 starring Glenn Ford and Marlon Brando.
Peter White Public Library’s Readers Theater is a group of adults, who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the third Thursday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New members are always welcome.
