NCLL Offers Logging Tour of J.M. Longyear Properties

MARQUETTE, Michigan – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will offer a tour of the active logging sites of J.M. Longyear, LLC at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24.

Dennis Cannoot, J.M. Longyear forester, will show participants how foresters decide which trees need to be harvested and what they do to mark them for harvest. There will be different types of harvesting crews to observe. The process of preparing the trees for shipment to mills will be explained as well. Participants will meet at the Berry Events Center’s east parking lot to carpool to the logging sites. All participants will be required to sign a waiver.

This tour is free for NCLL members and $5 for non-members. Register by Wednesday, April 18, by calling Al Reynolds at 360-4167 or 475-9836.
