Marquette – Readers Theater will meet for a reading of “The Weir” by award winning Irish playwright, Conor McPherson, on Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.
The Weir depicts an evening at a small bar located on a farm in rural Ireland where the proprietor, three other local men, and a woman new to the area meet, drink, and tell stories. The banter consists of friendly local talk and gossip that is uneventful in itself, but overall reveals the characters’ isolation and the figurative ghosts that haunt them. The Weir won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1999.
Peter White Public Library Readers Theater is a group of adults, who are interested in drama and are willing and able to read a scripted role. They meet on the third Thursday of each month to read plays for enjoyment. New members are always welcome.
