Marquette – The 23rd Annual U.P. AFL-CIO Labor Education Conference, “We Are The People,” will be held on March 30 and 31 in the Don Bottum University Center at Northern Michigan University.
Presenters include Kim Bobo from the Interfaith Worker Justice organization; Michigan State Senator Bert Johnson; a panel discussion on “Mobilizing Membership” moderated by Fred B. Kotler with Karla Swift, President of the Michigan State AFL-CIO, LaTonya Johnson from Wisconsin AFSCME, Kim Bobo, Stu Skauge from the MI Education Association and Carolyn Hietamaki from the MI Nurses Association.
In addition, Louis Galdieri and Ken Ross will report results from a multi-year research effort, “Labor History: The Calumet Italian Hall Project”, as well as present a film resulting from the project, The 1913 Massacre.
The conference opening remarks will be presented by Karla Swift, MI State AFL-CIO and this years’ event Master of Ceremonies will be Tony Retaskie.
