Gill Nets in Bays de Noc and Northern Green Bay Part of DNR Fisheries Survey

Department of Natural Resources gill nets will be present in the Bays de Noc and northern Green Bay throughout most of September as part of a fish community research survey, DNR Fisheries Division officials announced today.

Anglers and boaters should be aware that the nets, marked on each end with large DNR buoys, will be present at random sampling sites in Little Bay de Noc, Big Bay de Noc, and in northern Green Bay near Cedar River . The 640-foot-long nets will generally be placed in waters less than 50 feet deep, within two miles of shore, and are moved daily.

For more information about the research survey, please contact DNR fisheries research biologist Troy Zorn at 906-249-1611.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state’s natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. For more information, go to www.michigan.gov/dnr.
