August 31, 2011 – Ecumenical Memorial Service being held in Marquette to Mark Tenth Anniversary of 9/11 Disaster at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
To remember the victims and heroes of 9/11 on the 10th anniversary of the disaster, everyone is invited to an ecumenical memorial service on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 7-8 p.m. ET at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette.
The service, which will include times of prayer, music and silence, is being sponsored by the leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, United Methodist and Catholic churches in the Upper Peninsula region.
Bishop Thomas Skrenes of the Northern Great Lakes Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is planning the service. He said, “This is an opportunity for Christians to come together to pray for peace, for our nation and for the people who serve us all.”
Bishop Skrenes hopes to involve local police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians in the service. There will also be an ecumenical choir.
“It’s beneficial for people of the community to join together for comfort and strength in this time of remembrance,” Bishop Skrenes added. There will also be time for fellowship after the prayer service as a modest reception will be held in the cathedral hall.
