Escanaba – The annual Upper Peninsula Senior Citizens Convention and Expo will be held on Thursday, September 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ruth Butler Exhibition Building at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.
This year’s theme is “The World of Sports.” Attendees are encouraged to wear clothing that celebrates and promotes their favorite sports team. Those who wear the most outrageous sports fan costume will be eligible to win a $100 prize.
Morning activities will include informational exhibits, health screenings, raffles, glamour shots, bingo with cash prizes, and a silent auction. Exhibitors will provide free blood pressure checks, oxygen testing and other health screening. As always, information pertaining to all programs important to seniors will be available. Flu and pneumonia vaccines will also be available for a fee; Medicare will be billed for those covered by Medicare Part B. Those covered by Medicare must provide their Medicare card.
The afternoon’s general session will feature digestive health specialist Dr. James Surrell from Marquette General Health Systems. Surrell will speak on healthy lifestyle choices. A representative from the Delta County YMCA will teach armchair aerobics, and the World of Sports Funniest Bloopers will be shown.
The registration fee is $7, which includes information, activities, entertainment and a Philly cheese steak luncheon. The deadline to register is September 19.
