Marquette – Lake Superior Theatre is accepting enrollments for its third annual Drama and Dreams Playscape Summer Camp, to be offered Monday, August 22 through Friday, August 26 in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.
Camp will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. The camp will culminate in a live performance for family and friends on Thursday August 25. There will be an optional final session/award celebration for students on Friday, August 26.
Children with special needs are particularly encouraged to enroll. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. The camp is designed to help children ages 8-14, work on socialization and communication skills as they learn about theatre, costume and set design, stage makeup, facial expression, voice projection, team building and leadership. Students will sing, tell stories, read poetry and develop a live performance in a fun, safe, creative environment.
Cost is $40 per camper, which includes a T-shirt for the final performance that campers may keep. Need based scholarships are available. Makeup, props, costuming and professional coaching will be provided. Adult volunteers are welcome.
The camp cannot accommodate children who are not toilet-trained or who require the administration of medication during camp hours. However, parents may send an individual aid to camp with children requiring these additional services.
For information, or to enroll, call the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center at 228-0472 or email arts@mqtcty.org.
