Hancock – The Pine Mountain Music Festival will sponsor a free concert with Carl Rahkonen presenting “The Finnish American Musical Journey: From Rune Singing to the Rockland Opera” on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. at the Jutila Center, 200 Michigan Street in Hancock.
The concert is to support the premiere of the new opera “Rockland.” Rahkonen, the 2010-2011 Finlandia Foundation National Lecturer of the Year, is an ethnomusicologist and professor and music librarian at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He will demonstrate several different instruments.
