Marquette – The Northern Michigan University Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society will present its annual distinguished lecture on Wednesday March 30 at 8 p.m. in lecture hall B of the West Science building at Northern Michigan University.
This year’s distinguished lecturer is Dr. David Frayer from the Department of Anthropology at the University of Kansas. He will present a talk entitled “Neandertals and Us”. Since their discovery in 1856, Neandertals have generally been considered a different species or offshoots from the subsequent European line with little or no contribution to the people who followed them. However, as Dr. Frayer will describe using recent research into Neandertal biology and culture, there may be a much closer relationship between Neandertals and the Cro-Magnons who followed them in Europe.
