Calendar – Community – Author/Musher/Adventurer Program – Mar. 6

Marquette – In celebration of the start of the 2011 Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska, the public is invited to meet musher, author and adventurer Pam Flowers and learn about her Arctic adventures on Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Flowers is the first woman and first American to complete a solo dog sled trip across 2,500 miles of Arctic America, arriving safely at their destination of Repulse Bay in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

Born in Sault Ste. Marie and now an Alaska resident, Flowers has chronicled her adventures in five books for children, teens and adults. Her newest, “Ellie’s Long Walk” is a picture book of the exciting story of Flowers and her dog Ellie’s 2,174 mile-long journey on the Appalachian Trail. “Alone Across the Arctic” details her solo sled dog trip across the frozen north and is geared toward teen and adult readers. A book sale and signing opportunity follows the presentation.
