Marquette – The Peter White Public Library Afternoon Classics film series will screen “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” starring Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt and Walter Huston on Friday, January 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room.
The film, set in 1925, is the tale of two down and out men who meet up with a grizzled prospector and decide to join him in search of gold in central Mexico. Through enormous difficulties, they eventually succeed in finding gold, but bandits, the elements and greed threaten to turn their success into disaster.
Released in 1948, “Treasure of the Sierra Madre” won three Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Walter Huston and Best Director for his son, John Huston. The film is shown in black and white and runs for 126 minutes. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
