Gwinn – Phyllis Wong will present a program on “The Gossard Girls” on Tuesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Gwinn Clubhouse.
Wong interviewed former Gossard employees while doing research on area women who made a difference in their communities. Former Gossard employees are encouraged to attend and share their recollections. Refreshments will be served.
During the early 20th century the H.W. Gossard Company, which manufactured women’s undergarments, opened sewing factories in Ishpeming and Gwinn. The discussion will also include the 1949 labor strike at the Gossard, the first such strike in the U.P. by female workers.
Admission is free to Forsyth Township Historical Society members, $2 for others. For more information, call Rick Wills at 346-5413 or e-mail him at rpwills@yahoo.com.
