The NMU volleyball wildcats held its “Green vs Gold” intrasquad match at the Vandament Arena in Marquette, Michigan on Tuesday, August 26, 2008.
Head Coach, Dominic Yoder and Graduate Assistant Coach, Fernanda Querioz's “Gold Team” beat Assistant Coach, Kristin Slamer and Student Assistant Coach, Gabe Giarmo's “Green Team” in three straight matches (25-19, 25-15, 25-20). There was a mixture of returning veterans and new players on each team (it appeared that the gold team was a little stacked though). The new girls seemed a little nervous playing in front of a crowd but they soon settled in.
Freshman setter, Madeline Ogden, seemed very comfortable and played with high intensity and skill. She set the ball very well for the outside hitters and picked opportune times to successfully dump the ball in the middle of the court between the defenders.
Sophomore, Daniela Bezerra showed that she has worked on her jumping and power over the summer with several kills from the left side. She also had a few aces from a nice jump serve mixed in as well. She looked a lot more consistent and confident on the court.
The cats return home to the Vandament Arena on Friday, September 12th when they take on GLIAC rivals Lake Superior State at 7:00pm and on Saturday, September 13th when they face Saginaw Valley State at 2:00pm.
