The Northern Michigan University Wildcats defeated the Ashland University Eagles in four sets (23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-11) at Vandament Arena in Marquette, Michigan on Friday, October 3, 3008.
NMU's blockers did a better job of timing AU's hitters this match. They came up with several partial and combined blocks, a few solo blocks and created some lanes where the defense was able to dig the ball pretty consistently.
NMU's power hitters, Daniela Bezerra and Caryn VanBeckum did a great job as well as they were able to pound the ball through Ashland's blockers. They combined for a total of 27 kills.
On defense, Cassie Osiecki had a great match with 21 digs and 6 aces.
Unfortunatley, Katt Garvick went down with an ankle injury in the third set as she defended against an Ashland attacker. It appeared that she might have rolled her ankle after landing on an Ashland foot. Katie Twardzik came off the bench to cover for Katt and contributed 5 kills to help the Wildcats seal their victory.
