The Marquette Electricians tied both games against the Thunder Bay Kings at Lakeview Arena in Marquette, Michigan on October 18-19, 2008.
Sundays game against the Thunder Bay Kings had it all, controversial calls, bickering coaches, cheap shots, power play goals, a short-handed goal and injuries… It was the latter that made all the difference in this game.
The game was called in the second period with just over two minutes left as the Thunder Bay Kings were out of goalies and patience.
The first goalie left near the end of the first period with a knee injury and the second goalie was knocked out of the game late in the second period shortly after a controversial collision with Joey Enright.
Enright (who was boxed in by a Kings defenseman) was making a play for the puck near the Kings net when the Kings goalie came out to play the puck resulting in a collision. Enright clipped the goalie in the head as he was pushed over the top of him. This was minutes after Enright confronted a Kings forward (with an elbow to the head) for slashing him as the two were coming out of the Electricians defensive zone. Enright was penalized on both occasions for the altercations.
In the middle of the first period, Electricians head coach Mike Dagenais was warned by a referee to stop arguing with the Kings head coach. From then on out it was every man or boy for himself.
I don't understand why the parents of some of these players feel it's necessary to continue to add fuel to the fire by yelling insults and obscenities at opposing players, coaches and referees. I don't think it should ever be tolerated and offenders should cause their team to be penalized and be immediately ejected off of the premises. It's hard enough for these coaches to keep these kids in line and the referees are just doing their jobs and they do make mistakes. Their only human…
