The Negaunee Miners boys varsity basketball team lost to the Gwinn Modeltowners by a score of 60-57 at Lakeview Memorial Gym in Negaunee, Michigan on Monday, December 22, 2008.
The Modeltowners jumped out to an early lead and never let up. Gwinn seemed like they just couldn't miss. The end of the first quarter saw the Miners down by a score of 16-10.
After falling behind, the Miners could never regain the lead. They came within one point a few times in the game but just could never get the go ahead bucket. The end of the half left the Miners down by one with a score of 26-25.
It seemed like the Miners worked on a few things in the locker room. They came out and pressed the Modeltowners. They forced them to the outside but almost every one of their shots just seemed to find its target. Again, the Miners missed some key shots and rebounds. The end of the third quarter saw the Miners down by six with a score of 42-36.
Dillon Menard again struggled in getting his game going as well as several other key players. The Miners were pretty solid on defense and late in the game, they started to make some key buckets and rebounds. Unfortunately, it was a little to late for the Miners as a late desperation shot by Benaglio missed its target to tie the game. The Miners lost by a score of 60-57.
