Marquette, MI – The Marquette Board of Light & Power (MBLP) announced the approval of its budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, which includes no changes to customer rates. The budget was unanimously approved by the BLP’s governing Board during a public meeting held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The announcement comes during Public Power Week (October 5–11, 2025), an annual national celebration recognizing the importance of community-owned utilities like the Marquette Board of Light & Power. “As we celebrate Public Power Week, it’s a great time to reflect on the value of locally owned, not-for-profit utilities,” said Thomas Carpenter, Executive Director of the Marquette Board of Light & Power. “We’re proud to approve a budget that holds rates steady for our customers while continuing to deliver safe and reliable electric service. Our focus remains on supporting the community we serve.”
The Marquette Board of Light & Power is a municipal electric utility serving the City of Marquette and nine surrounding townships. The MBLP is committed to delivering high-quality, affordable electric service while investing in system reliability and long-term sustainability.
