UPDATE – HOUGHTON, MICH. – Two deceased individuals were found on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at South Lake Desor Campground, located at Isle Royale National Park. Both individuals have been identified, and their next of kin have been notified. There is no known threat to the public at this time.
Due to the remote location of the campground near Greenstone Ridge trail, a fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter were used to assist with transportation for the investigation. This remains an ongoing investigation, and we have no further information to provide.
HOUGHTON, MICH. – Late Sunday afternoon, June 8, at approximately 4:00 pm, park rangers at Isle Royale National Park received two separate reports of two persons found deceased at a remote backcountry campground within the park.
Two rangers hiked overnight 11 miles to the campground to assess the situation, arriving early Monday morning, confirming two unidentified persons found deceased. The causes of death are unknown at this time.
Additional ground and aviation resources responded starting Monday. The incident is currently under investigation. More information will be released as it is made available.
